Our approach is simple: deliver dentistry at the highest level of service. We do that by equipping a team of passionate people with everything they need to give you superlative care. All in beautiful, award-winning spaces designed to enhance every part of your experience.

Our Guiding Principles

Seamless Teamwork

Every visit to our practice involves a complex array of interlocking pieces, but you should never feel the seams. Whether you’re checking in with our front desk, catching up on your flossing habits with our hygienists, or discussing your treatment plan with Dr. Boyer, each member of our team works hard to ensure that you always feel like you’re taken care of by a single, harmonious, expert unit.

The Golden Rule

We provide you with the superlative level of service that we’d expect ourselves. That’s not just talk — our team gets their teeth taken care of here, too, and they get the very same care that you do. Every decision we make, from how we answer the phone to how we handle the most complex clinical care, is guided by the same question: How would we like to receive this ourselves?

Design for Humans

Our job is to take care of people. So, we’ve designed our overall service experience and our physical spaces to be a delight — for people. You’ll feel it from the precisely-chosen materials throughout our office to the carefully-crafted communications throughout your treatment.

State of the Art

Great service is timeless. Yet, so much of dentistry is stuck in the stone age. We invest, to an almost fanatical degree, in clinical training, technology and practices that helps us deliver the most effective, modern care available.

Longterm Development

We put in the work to cultivate long-term relationships, with you and our team. We’ve seen many of our patients for years — through new jobs, breakups, marriages, and more. That’s because we’re committed to your long-term health, not making a quick buck. A big part of that commitment is our investment in the stability and development of our staff. Much of our clinical team has been with us for years — some of them more than a decade. Unlike a lot of other practices, we continually dedicate resources to helping our team members level up. We think you’ll feel the difference from the moment they put their incredible skills to work.

Our History

Since starting dental school in 2006, our founding dentist, Dr. Sara Boyer, has explored new ways to put our principles into practice. After all, our job is to take care of you. And for nearly two decades now we’ve obsessed over designing the best dental studio with you in mind.

Here’s how we’ve evolved over the years:

Washington Square Park Dental (2008 – 2013)

While still in dental school, Dr. Boyer opened her first private practice, Washington Square Park Dental. For the design, she collaborated with David Montalba—the award-winning architect behind masterpieces like Nobu Malibu and the Erewhon Santa Monica—to create a genre-busting location that had Inc. Magazine wondering if it was “the coolest dentist’s office you’ve ever seen.” The experience of starting, operating, and ultimately selling this first practice shaped our vision for what modern dentistry should look like.

Ideation (2013)

While managing Washington Square Park Dental, Dr. Boyer saw a pattern among her friends and patients working throughout the city: They practically lived at the office, “hated the dentist,” and didn’t know where to find good care. Seeing an opportunity, Dr. Boyer sold Washington Square Park Dental to focus on developing Studio Dental, a new kind of practice that would meet patients where they worked. The early team joined Rock Health, a first-of-its-kind digital health accelerator, to build the new business with the help of experts across design, tech, and healthcare.

Going Mobile (2014 – 2017)

In 2014, Studio Dental launched as an innovative mobile studio that visited tech offices across San Francisco. Nicknamed “The Trailer,” the unit was another award-winning design from Montalba Architects. The mobile studio allowed the early team to deliver a full suite of services in a compact, yet beautiful space. In just a few years, we took care of thousands of patients around the city. Our hygienists, Karen and Loraine, first joined us during this era.

Developing the Brick and Mortar (2017 – 2020)

In order to keep up with growing demand from patients, Studio Dental began work on our brick and mortar headquarters in 2017. A bold, material-centered design—again from our friends at Montalba Architects—the new space allowed the practice to serve more patients and expand into new service lines. The brick and mortar opened to patients in 2018 and, like the mobile studio, earned a number of architecture and design awards. Our operators Bea and Valene, and our extended-function assistant, Yadira, joined us during this era.

Transformation (2020 – 2022)

The COVID-19 pandemic made us rethink every aspect of the practice. We adapted to the changing needs of our patients by retiring The Trailer and doubling down on a safe, state-of-the-art experience at our brick and mortar. As challenging as this period was, it called us to develop new systems for service design and patient care that elevated even the most basic parts of the practice.

Current (2022 – Today)

If the past two decades have been characterized by one thing, it’s our commitment to improving your experience. In a lot of ways, it feels like we’re still only just getting started. In recent years, we’ve been joined by our operators Desi and Mercedes, and our assistants Fernando and Joanna. To support the team, we continue to invest in new technology, processes, and resources that help us give you remarkably good care. Just as importantly, we invest heavily in advanced continuing dental education — regularly training with leading clinicians, adopting the latest evidence-based techniques, and staying at the forefront of modern dentistry. This ongoing commitment ensures that the care you receive today reflects the very best our profession has to offer. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or the fortieth, we couldn’t be more excited — or better prepared — to provide you with a service unlike anywhere else.
